The presidents of Russia and the United States held a video meeting, the main topic of which was the situation in Ukraine.
Boris Mezhuev, a political scientist and associate professor of the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University, said that the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden showed that both are political realists who are aware of their responsibility for the security situation in the world, but there was no “chemistry” between them.
“They have something in common. I do not think that some kind of “chemistry” in relations has arisen between them, but they have one thing in common, which is that they are responsible politicians who understand their responsibility for the situation and do not want to plunge Europe into a military conflict; aware of the consequences of the actions of their predecessors and the need for dialogue. These are two political realists, another thing is that Biden is not always able to designate this political realism openly”, the political scientist said.
According to him, Biden and Putin “have something in common, the difference in political philosophies was very vividly presented during the conversation.”
“The talks, rather, showed disagreements than revealed common, which is not bad, because, apparently, the Geneva summit was too complimentary,” Mezhuev explained.
