The Moldovan government intends to announce a tender for the selection of an international auditing company to clarify the amount of its debt for gas to Gazprom, said Prime Minister Andrei Spinu.
The tender will be announced in December; the Ministry of Finance of Moldova is preparing it. The Moldovan authorities will pay for the audit, because the recalculation is “in their interests”.
Earlier, due to the refusal to pay the debt of $ 700 million for the used Russian gas to Gazprom, Chisinau was almost left without a new contract for gas supplies.
However, the parties came to a compromise due to the fact that the Kremlin asked Gazprom not to “put pressure” on the Moldovan authorities. But less than a month after the signing of the new contract, the Moldovan authorities again failed to pay for gas supplies on time.
Therefore, Gazprom was forced to issue an ultimatum: if no payment is made within two days, the gas will be cut off to Moldova. Payment was received on the fourth day.
Now Chisinau wants to recalculate their debt in the way that will be beneficial to them, as stated by the Moldovan Prime Minister Andrei Spinu.
