Norway has spoken out against NATO allies moving near Russia

Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Witfeldt has said the country’s new government is in favour of limiting the movement of Oslo’s NATO allies near Russia’s borders

“For us, a military presence near our borders is important. But, in our opinion, it would be better if in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border we manage ourselves – with the help of Norwegian planes and frigates. It’s very important for us”, –  Witfeldt said.

She said she planned to discuss the issue with London and Washington.

“They can make decisions for themselves. But we, in turn, have to protect Norwegian interests. It is in Norwegian interests to take care of defence of these areas by ourselves, by Norwegian Armed Forces”, –  she explained.

In her opinion, the presence of American troops in the area around the border with Russia is not more than in other periods of the “post-war era”.
