Kiev has started negotiations with the European Commission (EC) on a new financial aid package, the total amount of which may exceed 1.2 billion euros, Bloomberg writes
“We have requested a long-term, macro-financial programme from the European Commission to ensure sustainable financing in the coming years”, – Yuriy Butsa, Ukraine’s government debt management commissioner, told the agency.
According to him, the amount of aid will depend on how much Ukraine needs given its existing commitments, but the total amount will not be less than 1.2bn euros. It is worth noting that Butsa did not disclose the conditions that might accompany the next financial aid package.
We shall remind you that in October the EC completed the payment of the previous EUR 1.2bn macrofinancial aid package to Ukraine. To issue the second tranche the EU has set a number of conditions for Kiev, which relate to reforms in the area of public finance management, fighting corruption, improving the business environment and management of state-owned enterprises.
