Calculations of anti-ship coastal missile system “Bastion” of the Pacific Fleet (PTF) have been put on duty on Matua island in the Kuril Islands, TASS reported
“The Russian Pacific Fleet’s Bastion coastal missile system has been deployed for the first time and has been put on duty on the island of Matua. The launch crews of the Bastion missile system will be on round-the-clock duty on the outlying island in the central part of the Kuril Islands, the Pacific Fleet`s press service has announced.”
The agency added that the fleet’s logistics units have deployed an autonomous military camp on the island, which is designed for year-round service and accommodation of personnel.
Complex “Bastion”, NATO classification SSC-5 Stooge (“puppet”), is designed to destroy surface ships of different classes and types of amphibious formations, convoys, ships and aircraft carrier strike groups, as well as single ships and ground targets in terms of intensive fire and electronic countermeasures.
