A spokesman for the White House, speaking at a regular briefing for journalists, said that the United States is always ready to take any steps in terms of the possible imposition of sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with the situation near the border with Ukraine
A White House spokeswoman added that in order to make such a decision, it is first necessary to consult with its European allies.
She made such a statement in response to a question whether the administration would call on Congress to impose sanctions on Russia if it “invades Ukraine.”
“I think we will first take a step that will be that our secretary of state will continue discussions with his European partners in the region to see what steps should be taken, if necessary,” the White House spokeswoman replied. “We are always ready for any action, and we also told them [European allies] about it,” added Psaki.
