Turkey will not act as mediators in the settlement of the conflict in Donbass. President Recep Erdogan has previously expressed such a desire.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, emphasized during the briefing that Ankara will not become an intermediary in this matter. TASS reports her words.
“There can be no talk of any mediating role of Turkey between Russia and Ukraine in the settlement of the internal Ukrainian conflict,” she said.
Although Erdogan announced his desire to take part in solving the problem, such a solution cannot be called effective. In addition, Turkey recently indirectly became an interested party when it sold drones to Kiev, which, as a result, were used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against civilians in Donbass.
Now the conflict does not need even more mediators. What can really radically change the situation is the willingness of the Ukrainian side to cease fire and sit down at the negotiating table with the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics.
