New sanctions against Belarus have already been approved by EU ambassadors

The European Union supported the fifth package of sanctions against Belarus. The permanent representatives of the 27 EU member states have approved new restrictive measures.

This is reported by TASS, referring to its source in one of the delegations to the Council of the European Union.

“The EU ambassadors at their meeting this morning approved the fifth package of sanctions, which includes about 25 individuals and legal entities,” he said.

The diplomat noted that the decision should be published the next day, Thursday. It will appear in the Official Journal of the EU and will officially enter into force immediately thereafter.

On November 15, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that new sanctions had already been agreed upon. These restrictive measures are imposed for the “incorrectly held presidential elections in the summer of 2020.” The sanctions are individual in nature and concern President Alexander Lukashenko, his family, members of the government, security officials, prosecutors, representatives of the judicial and electoral systems.
