Already today, the US Senate will consider an amendment that provides for sanctions against the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
The Hill, citing its sources, reports that the Senate intends to conclude an agreement on the adoption of the defense budget on December 1. It also includes the issue of restrictive measures in relation to Nord Stream-2, reports “Kommersant”.
Now Republicans and Democrats are busy figuring out if there are those willing to block the project. The Senate has the right to vote on the amendment, and only then pass the defense budget.
The Republican Party in the Senate is now in the minority, but very determined. Its leader in the legislature, Mitch McConnell, said about “the determination of the Democrats to prevent the fight against growing aggression from Russia.”
The conflict between the political forces began yesterday, when the Republicans voted against the consideration of the draft defense budget. All due to the fact that the Democrats did not support the poison of amendments to the budget, including tougher sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.
