Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic believes that the United States is trying to squeeze Russia out of the gas market politically so that there is no gas in Europe.
According to Vucic, the European Union lacks 70 billion cubic meters of gas: of which 55 billion can be provided by Nord Stream-2, if it works.
Despite numerous US sanctions packages, the pipeline was completed last month. However, according to Washington, the pipeline threatens European “energy security”. Although many argue that the United States is driven by its own desire to sell liquefied natural gas in Europe.
The current situation with the gas pipeline was commented on by Dmitry Drobnitsky, a Russian political scientist-Americanist, an expert on American foreign and domestic policy.
“Regarding Nord Stream-2, the Republicans do not like Biden’s agreements with the German politicians, simply because they are not theirs. Moreover, within the Biden administration itself, it is not clear who will make political decisions in the future. Europeans should feel for themselves that there is definitely no clarity in their relation”, the expert said.
Earlier, Vucic said that Russia agreed to supply gas to Serbia on exceptional terms at a price of $270 per 1,000 cubic meters. That allowed Belgrade to save at least one billion euros.
