US destroyer resumes Black Sea operation

US Navy missile destroyer Arleigh Burke left a Bulgarian port on November 28 to resume operations in the Black Sea, the US Sixth Fleet reported

“The US Navy missile destroyer Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) left the port of Varna in Bulgaria on 28 November 2021 to resume operations in the Black Sea. The port call reaffirmed the U.S. Navy’s commitment to the NATO alliance and critical allies such as Bulgaria, while demonstrating Arleigh Burke’s ability to deploy to the U.S. Sixth Fleet area of responsibility in support of regional stability”, –  the statement said.

Recall that last week, the Sixth Fleet announced that the USS Arleigh Burke missile destroyer had entered the Black Sea to participate in operations with NATO partners. Russia’s National Defence Control Centre said the Black Sea Fleet’s forces and assets were monitoring its actions.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called the actions of NATO member states in the Black Sea “playing with fire”, warning that Russia was ready to fight back against such “manoeuvres”.
