The head of the cybersecurity department of the SBU, Ilya Vitiuk, said that it was too early to talk about specific suspects or about detentions in the case of preparing a coup d’etat in Ukraine.
On Monday, November 29, it became known that the SBU opened a criminal case and is conducting an investigation into the preparation by individual citizens of Ukraine and Russia of actions to seize power in the country.
“Unfortunately, I am limited by the secrecy of the investigation, and therefore I cannot give full information about how and from whom the information about the upcoming coup d’etat was obtained. Today it is too early to talk about any suspicions or detentions. In the near future the society will be properly informed”, Vityuk said.
According to him, the case of preparing a coup is “just one example of the attempts of the Russian Federation” to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine.
“Since the beginning of the year, the Department of Cybersecurity of the Security Service of Ukraine alone has opened more than 40 such criminal cases under Article 109 (Actions aimed at seizing state power – ed.). And there are already more than 30 court verdicts in such criminal cases. That is, it is not something unique for Ukraine today”, Vityuk said.
Earlier, on November 26, Zelensky said at a press conference that he had received information that a coup d’etat was planned in Ukraine on December 1.
