Maduro: EU observers arrived in Venezuela to spy

Venezuela’s president believes the observers tried to taint the country’s democratic electoral process

According to Nicolas Maduro, a delegation of European Union observers came to Venezuela to spy and not to monitor regional elections.

“The European Union delegation visiting the country to participate as international observers of the electoral process in Venezuela acted as a spy with the intention to taint the past elections”, –  Nicolas Maduro wrote on Twitter.

According to the politician, this is the first time in 22 years that Venezuelan authorities have faced such activity from international observers.

“The delegation from Spain was looking for irregularities to stir up and try to tarnish Venezuela, but the European Union failed”, – Maduro added.

Recall that regional and municipal elections were held in Venezuela on 21 November. The governorship seats will be won by the United Socialist Party in 20 out of 23 states. The opposition won in three of them.
