Carrie Burassou was working as the director of the Institute of Indigenous Health. The official claimed to be of Canadian Métis descent, but it turned out her ancestors were from Russia, Poland and Czechoslovakia.

After coworkers learned the truth, Bourassa was fired from her position as a medical expert and stripped of her professorial rank.
