Ukraine has doubled purchases of Russian coal – up to $179.825 million, follows from the information of the State Fiscal Service.
“In October 2021 compared to October 2020, coal imports increased 2.1 times, or by $119.927 million, to $229.856 million,” the message says.
Coal supplies from Russia accounted for 78.2% of the country’s total imports.
According to Dmitry Marunich, co-chairman of the Ukrainian Fund for Energy Strategies, about 20% of Ukrainian thermal power plants operate on coal, the rest – on gas.
