Germany does not rule out dialogue with Minsk, but at the same time plans to toughen sanctions

The future Foreign Minister of Germany, Annalena Berbock, co-chair of the German Greens, did not rule out a dialogue with the Belarusian authorities, but at the same time spoke in favor of strengthening sanctions on Minsk.

She also advocated the revitalization of the so-called “Weimar Triangle” – a tripartite political institution of Germany, France and Poland.

“Times are not easy at all. We are witnessing double blackmail from Lukashenka: on the one hand, refugees are used to split Europe, on the other hand, the government in Minsk wants the Europeans to recognize him as a negotiating partner, although it oppresses the opposition”, said the future Foreign Minister.

According to her, “you must not allow ‘dictators’ to blackmail.”

“I consider it right to toughen sanctions and increase pressure on the Lukashenka regime. At the same time, diplomacy means a constant search for dialogue”, said Berbock.
