Sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline by the United States are an example of unilateral and politically motivated restrictions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said
The Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, Sergei Lavrov, said: “It has been a common practice for many years that a number of Western countries, led by the Americans, use unilateral politically motivated sanctions, which are imposed for everything, with or without cause, as they say. And, of course, the most egregious example is what they’re doing with Nord Stream-2,” Lavrov said at a forum organised by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).
The minister stressed that Moscow reacts to such moves by Washington “in a calibrated and adequate manner, guided by the tasks of maintaining the stability of the domestic economy and financial system.” Lavrov also added that Russia was at the same time proposing its own positive agenda “to ensure equal interaction and balance of interests in international economic relations without any discrimination”.
“Although it is a question of complying with all the norms currently in force. The politicisation is blatant. I don’t think the West makes a good reputation for itself by such actions”, – said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that a report based on the Law on Protection of Energy Security in Europe, which may be used to impose sanctions for work on the construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2, was submitted to the Congress. According to Bloomberg, Washington will not impose sanctions on the German ship that took part in the construction of the pipeline, because it does not want to antagonise the German leadership.
