US aircraft carriers have vulnerabilities that render them helpless against Russian and Chinese missiles, said retired US Navy Captain Jerry Hendricks
He believes the current capabilities of US warships prevent them from striking targets ashore when defences are in place. In order to compete with China and Russia, the United States needs to increase its strike range.
“China and Russia already have effective warfare capabilities that make it very difficult, if not impossible, for aircraft carriers to approach target territories”, – Hendricks acknowledged.
Hendricks also believes that unless manned or unmanned long-range aircraft appear on the decks of aircraft carriers soon, carrier strike groups will not have much of an impact on deterring Russia and China.
