WP: US analyzes military exercises conducted to “restrain Russia”

The White House is reviewing US military exercises in Europe over the past few years, which were aimed at “containing the power of the Kremlin,” writes The Washington Post.

“The White House has asked the Pentagon for a list of the exercises that the US has conducted in Europe in recent years to contain Russia, as well as their justification, the Biden administration is reviewing military operations in the air, on land and at sea, designed to contain the power of the Kremlin and inspire allies and partners in Europe”, sources told the newspaper.

According to WP, the administration of US President Joe Biden is reviewing the exercise to give the White House “clarity about US military exercises and other containment actions in Europe so that new maneuvers can be evaluated and planned with the past in mind”.

A Washington Post source in the US administration also said that the White House intends to pay special attention to the number of military personnel who took part in the maneuvers and “the political goals for which the exercises were directed”.

As previously reported by News Front, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate, Robert Menendez, proposed an amendment to the draft defense budget, which involves the introduction of sanctions restrictions against Russia in the event of Moscow’s “hostile actions” against Ukraine.
