The issue of Kiev’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance is currently not on the agenda, said Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov.
On November 18, the new head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Oleksiy Reznikov, met in Washington with the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin. The parties discussed building up the defense potential of Kiev.
“A decision on Ukraine’s joining NATO can only be made with the consensus of the Alliance countries. This will be a political decision. So far, making such a decision is not on the agenda. But this does not mean that we should forget about the prescriptions of the Constitution, that our goal is to join NATO”, Reznikov said during a visit to the Ukrainian embassy in Washington.
Earlier, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said that the countries of the organization do not have a common opinion on Kiev’s entry into NATO. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that it is the North Atlantic Alliance that is the main source of aggression in recent history.
