The head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, said that at present it is impossible to accurately predict how Washington’s relations with the new Afghan government, which was formed by the Taliban*, who seized power in the republic, will develop.
“So far, it is difficult to predict how our relations with any future government of Afghanistan will develop. Our contacts are still uncertain. We are currently focusing on the evacuation of our citizens who wish to leave”, Austin said during the Manama Dialogue conference.
In addition, the head of the Pentagon stressed that the United States has serious concerns “about the future of girls and women in Afghanistan.” Austin stressed that Washington will continue to provide assistance to the Afghan people through non-governmental organizations.
