German Foreign Ministry urged Russia to return to negotiations on Donbass

The German Foreign Ministry called on Russia to return to the negotiating table on Donbass in “established formats” and in accordance with established principles.

RIA Novosti was told at the Foreign Office in Berlin.

“We urge Russia to return to the negotiating table and continue our negotiations in the established formats and in accordance with the established principles,” the FRG Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry says that for several months Germany and France have been intensively working to continue negotiations and implement a specific peace agenda based on the Minsk agreements.

“To this end, we have made several specific proposals for a meeting of foreign ministers in the Normandy format, as agreed between the (FRG) Chancellor Angela Merkel, (French) President Emmanuel Macron and (Russian) President Vladimir Putin in October. Russia refused to attend such a meeting”, the ministry said.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the meeting in the Normandy format will only take place when Kiev fulfills everything that was agreed in the Minsk agreements.
