Better take us to the EU: Kuleba responds to proposal to house illegals in Ukraine

The Ukrainian foreign minister commented on a proposal by a German expert to host illegal migrants from Belarus on Ukrainian territory

According to the politician, German MPs should focus on helping Ukraine become a member of the EU, which would be the best way to involve Kiev in solving the problem of migrants on the border with Belarus.

“We are coordinating with our partners, no such proposals have been sounded at the official level. In general, the best way to involve us in anything is to take us to the EU. When we will be members of the EU, then we will coordinate our efforts 100% and together bear the burden of any problem or the joy of any success with the same Germany. Therefore, I urge that German MP and other MPs to focus on the simple goal of EU membership for Ukraine and then we will have an exchange of views. In the meantime, there is no need to give us any advice,” Kuleba said.

Earlier, Niels Schmid, a foreign policy expert of the Social Democratic Party faction in the German Bundestag, suggested that Ukraine take in migrants from the Polish-Belarusian border. Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov responded to Schmid’s statement by suggesting that German MPs take migrants to their homes.
