Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev told Interfax that Russia has started localizing the production of S-400 surface-to-air missile system elements in Turkey
“We have started technological cooperation with Turkey on S-400. We are localizing some elements, have started work in this direction”, – Mikheev told reporters at the Dubai Airshow-2021.
According to him, the current contract provides not only for the supply of S-400 air defense systems to Turkey, but also localization of some parts of the production of air defense system components in the Turkish territory. Previously, Ankara bought four divisions of S-400 air defense systems from Moscow worth over $2.5 billion.
The United States has long been trying to put pressure on Turkey over Ankara’s purchase of Russian S-400 air defence systems. Amid this controversy, Washington refused to supply Turkey with fifth-generation F-35 aircraft in 2019.
