The head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Bill Nelson said that Russia allegedly tested an anti-satellite missile that endangered the International Space Station (ISS)
On November 15, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Russia had allegedly conducted “a devastating test of an anti-satellite weapon with a direct orbit against one of its satellites”. He said the missile detonation produced about 1,500 fragments that were “traceable”.
“Like Secretary Blinken, I am outraged by this irresponsible and destabilising act. it is inconceivable that Russia has endangered not only US astronauts and their international partners on the ISS, but also its own astronauts”, – Nelson said in a statement.
The NASA chief added that all countries “have obligations to prevent deliberate creation of space debris from [using] anti-satellite weapons and to maintain a safe and sustainable environment in space.”
