Kiev will be fighting tooth and nail to prevent the launch of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. It needs the money from the transit of fuel from Russia, and the new pipe will deprive it of a huge income
Anton Bredikhin, a member of the Scientific Council of the UN RAS “Socio-Political Problems of Formation of the EAEC”, the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Archont” in a conversation with the Federal News Agency explained that the launch of NSP2 will leave the Ukrainian side without about 2 billion USD of annual revenues.
The expert stressed that this amount is equal to 1.5% of Ukraine’s GDP. Kiev will do everything possible to disrupt the launch of the pipeline. The head of Naftohaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, even hopes that the USA will support Ukraine and impose sanctions on the project. Ukrainian representatives continue to make unfounded claims that NSP2 poses some kind of mythical threat.
“But there is a mistake in their tactics. They put their trust in the US, they think that foreign countries will help them. Forgetting that Russia is nearby, available for a dialogue. Sanctions won’t fix it – there will be counter-sanctions on them. In my opinion, it is necessary to allow regional heads to impose sanctions against Ukrainian companies themselves. And there will be many of them”, – Bredikhin said.
Earlier, News Front reported that the Ukrainian companies “Naftogaz” and “GTS Operator of Ukraine” still made their way to the list of those who will participate in the certification of “Nord Stream – 2”.
