Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei held telephone talks with the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell, during which the parties discussed the growing migration crisis, RIA Novosti reported.
“I spoke with Belarusian Foreign Minister Makei to raise the issue of the unstable humanitarian situation on the border with the EU. Lives must be protected, humanitarian organizations must be given access”, Borrell wrote on Twitter.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus noted that the difficult migration situation on the border of Belarus and the European Union was discussed. Makei told Borrell about the steps taken by Minsk to “reduce the flow of migrants from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, provide humanitarian assistance to refugees at the border, and interact on this issue with international organizations of the UN system.”
The situation with migrants escalated on the border of Belarus and Poland on November 8. Several thousand refugees want to move to the territory of the European Union. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stressed that Minsk does not want a conflict on its state border.
