Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov said that there are 2 thousand migrants on the border with Poland
“Now there are more than two thousand destitute people along the border, including women and children,” said Rybakov, speaking at the meeting of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly.
According to him, all these people “do not consider the territory of Belarus as their place of stay.”
“They want to apply for protection in the EU. Instead, our neighbours are gassing them, shooting over their heads and bringing large calibre military equipment to the border. There are numerous testimonies and irrefutable evidence to this effect”, – the diplomat said.
In Rybakov’s opinion, Poland and Lithuania are simply siphoning money from the European Union under the pretext of the migrant crisis.
“Poland and Lithuania are using the situation around migrants as a pretext for siphoning funds from the EU and justifying their anti-immigrant policy and numerous violations of international obligations. They are also trying to use demonization of Belarus to enhance their role in European politics”, – he said.
The Permanent Representative to the UN summarized that Belarus is ready to cooperate with the EU to ensure security at the common border.
