Europe predicts a new gas war

Polish portal Defence24 published an article, the author of which says that Lukashenko’s threats could lead to a new gas war with Europe

According to the author of the article, Jakub Wiech, Minsk could not allow such a statement without the approval of Moscow, which is “responsible” for the current energy crisis in Europe.

“Russia has long demonstrated that it knows how to use its energy resources to achieve political goals. The last major incident of this kind took place in 2009. Then the Russians, by reducing gas supplies through Ukraine, forced the Europeans to use strategic reserves of this fuel”, –  the author of the article said.

He also believes that the situation will contribute to accelerating the commissioning of Nord Stream 2, while Minsk’s suspension of gas transit may serve as another argument in favour of the new pipeline, as it will show “the unreliability of transit states.
