World needs new COVID-19 vaccination plan – UN secretary-general

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has assessed the pace of immunisation of the world’s population. According to him, the process of immunization of humanity must be considerably accelerated

Guterres said that vaccination against the coronavirus infection is being carried out too slowly: billions of people “are still waiting for their first vaccination”. Such inequity is “morally wrong,” he said. The UN Secretary General has called on the global community to develop an international coronavirus vaccination plan.

“We need an international vaccination plan that will at least double the rate of vaccine production and distribution to reach a 70% vaccination rate in the first half of 2022”, –  Guterres said in a video message to the Paris Peace Forum.

As previously reported by News Front, the number of reported cases of coronavirus infection in the world has risen to 251.4 million. The number of deaths has passed the five million mark.
