Polish Foreign Ministry says migrants at border are not refugees

Spokesman for the Polish Foreign Ministry, Lukasz Jasina, said that thousands of migrants on the Belarusian-Polish border are not refugees, Die Welt reports

“The problem is that they have all come to Belarus legally, received visas from the Belarusian law, which means that they are crossing over to the EU from the safe haven. This is a very important form. If they were coming from countries where unsafe events are taking place, they could get this legal document. It is illegal for tourists to cross the border illegally and get refugee status,” Jasina said in an interview with the Ekho Moskvy radio station.

According to him, Polish authorities will under no circumstances allow migrants from the Polish-Belarusian border to enter their territory. Yasina noted that according to the international law, Warsaw “can look and offer our humanitarian assistance to Minsk.

Recall that on November 8, several thousand migrants approached the Polish border from the side of Belarus, wishing to cross the territory of the European Union. Some of them managed to break through the barbed wire fence and get across the border. Poland, Latvia and Lithuania accused Minsk of waging a “hybrid war”. The EU is considering the possibility of imposing a new package of sanctions against Belarus.
