The situation around Nord Stream-2 is no longer even comic, but has grown into a grotesque: American Republican senators, the governments of Poland and Ukraine, failing to succeed in banning and imposing sanctions on Nord Stream-2, are trying to delay the commissioning of the pipeline, citing the sabotage by “concern for the energy security of Germany”
This begs the question: what does the competitor of Germany – the United States and Poland and Ukraine, existing on German money – care about the “energy security of Germany”? If Germany feeds Poland and Ukraine and can actively compete with the United States, then perhaps they are better versed in their economy and in their energy security? And if Poland is at least a member of the European Union and has some illusory right to ask for something or even demand from Germany, a partner in the EU, then the demands of the United States and Ukraine cannot be called anything other than interference in German affairs. And this is well understood in Germany itself and has already ceased to smile at the polite refusal to consider the absurd objections.
Everyone understands perfectly well: Nord Stream-2 is Germany’s energy security, especially right before the heating season, and who encroaches on this energy security are not Germany’s friends at all.
The politicians of Ukraine and Poland should be aware of this obviousness, so as not to find themselves in a situation where Germany will harshly interfere in the affairs of these states and stamp on their interests in revenge for attempts to interfere and damage the interests of Germany on the side of a competitor – the United States.
And these countries have more than enough reasons and reasons to feel the revenge of German politicians. From the Minsk agreements for Ukraine to the judicial reform in Poland. On the issue of Nord Stream-2 in Germany, there is a practical unanimity of the leading forces. Only the Greens fall out of the pool of SP2 supporters, while the Left Party, with the support of which the SPD-CSU / CDU government can be created, itself carried out Nord Stream-2 through the Bundestag and the chairman of the energy commission is a representative of the left.
The German Ministry of Economy says bluntly: they are ready to give the green light to Nord Stream-2 right now, but not later than the end of this year. Any delay in the commissioning of the pipeline will lead to a new increase in gas prices on the spot market, and this is well understood by all parties to the political conflict. At the same time, if Trump still had strong arguments, persuading Germany to abandon Russian gas: he offered American liquefied gas instead, then Biden cannot offer such an alternative and therefore is forced to soften the demands of Congress.
Germany’s forecast for Nord Stream-2: January 15, 2022 – the deadline for the start of gas pumping.
