German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has called on the European Commission to help resolve the situation on the Polish border
“We must help the Polish government to secure the external border. This is actually the job of the European Commission. Now I urge them to take action”, – said Seehofer.
He added that Poland and Germany “cannot deal with the situation alone”. At the same time, Seehofer notes that Poland has so far reacted correctly to the incident.
The head of the ministry believes that “structural border security” is needed. The minister called to “publicly support the Poles”, as Berlin cannot criticise Warsaw “for protecting the external EU border by acceptable means”.
On Monday, there were attempts to cross the border by force. Migrants tried to overcome wire fences and border guards used tear gas.
