Certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could be completed in early 2022, Klaus Ernst, a member of the Bundestag and former head of the Economics and Energy Committee, said, it was reported
“The German Federal Network Agency could make a decision on certification as early as mid-January 2022, but now there is a need to launch the project as soon as possible”, – Ernst said.
The German MP described as “complete nonsense” an agreement with Washington that Berlin would allegedly give up Russian gas if Moscow used the blue fuel supply against Kiev.
“Why shouldn’t we get gas from Russia if Ukraine doesn’t pay its bills? In Germany, if someone doesn’t pay their gas bill because they don’t have the money, they get their gas cut off. This is a normal practice which Russians should also have the right to implement”, – the politician explained.
Ernst also believes that Kiev and Warsaw should not be involved in the process of certification of the gas pipeline at all.
“So far, there are some uncertainties necessary for the launch of the gas pipeline, but they can be resolved. I think Gazprom will be able to resolve them. I believe the launch can take place – early next year at the latest”, – Ernst said.
