One of the participants in the storming of the Capitol in the United States, which occurred in January this year, sought asylum in Belarus
This is reported by the publication “Novoe Vremya,” citing the TV channel “Belarus 1.” We are talking about American citizen Evan Newman. He said that his photo was among the most wanted by the FBI criminals.
“And some of my friends warned me about it. I have a lot of friends working for the government. I knew I would be identified immediately, so I left first thing. I started hiding, travelling across America from one place to another. I hired a lawyer. And the lawyer said I could go to Europe on a business trip”, – he said.
Six criminal cases have been filed against Newman. One of them is based on him allegedly hitting a police officer. However, this is untrue.
Newman managed to leave the US first for Italy, then by train to Switzerland. From there he travelled by car to Germany and later to Poland. In March he arrived in the Ukrainian city of Zhytomyr, where he lived in a rented flat.
However, after a month of living in Ukraine, he noticed he was being followed and decided to seek asylum when the Security Service began harassing him. He considers his situation to be purely political pressure and not a criminal investigation.
