The Lithuanian authorities have decided to redeploy units of the Armed Forces to the border with Belarus. They are doing so following the example of their Polish counterparts, who are now facing the largest wave of migrants in the modern history of the country
The Lithuanian government is seriously concerned that a huge crowd of refugees crossing the border into Belarus might enter their territory. It does not rule out the declaration of a state of emergency. Polish President Andrzej Duda imposed it on September 2.
According to the latest reports, the refugees have already left the Belarusian territory and entered the forest on the border. The migrants, who have been questioned, say they are “on their way to Germany”.
The country is terrified of how the situation on the border may unfold. Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said the 12,000 troops serving on the eastern border were on six-hour alert.
“Together with the services of the Interior Ministry, we are ready to defend the Polish border”, – he wrote on his Twitter page.
All Polish soldiers have been instructed to check their ammunition and inform their relatives of the situation in the country.
