Poland calls urgent meeting on situation on border with Belarus

Polish President Andrzej Duda called a meeting with representatives of the Polish government on the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, reports TASS

“In connection with the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, Polish President Andrzej Duda will meet with the prime minister, ministers and heads of services at the BNB today at 14:30”, –  Poland’s National Security Bureau (BNB) said on Twitter.

Earlier it was reported that Polish border security has been stepped up due to reports of illegal migrants seeking to enter the country. According to Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, some 12,000 troops serving on the eastern border are on six-hour alert.

According to political analyst Vsevolod Szymow, the migration crisis in Poland allows Warsaw to receive additional funds from the European Union and “raise its stakes in the European game”
