Clashes between opponents of COVID certificates and the police in Italy

In Trieste in northern Italy, during rallies against the mandatory presentation of COVID certificates in public places, clashes with the police took place.

During the protest action, several hundred people attempted to overcome the barriers set up by the police in order to enter the city’s main square – Piazza Unità d’Italia (Unity Square of Italy). Law enforcement officials used truncheons and pushed the protesters back.

According to the local TV channel TGCOM24, 10 people were detained during the riots. Another person was injured. In Milan, more than four thousand people took part in a rally against COVID certificates. Also, protests took place in Turin, Padua and Naples.

Recall that from August 6, all residents of Italy over the age of 12 years are forced to present a certificate confirming vaccination, a previous illness or a negative coronavirus test when visiting cinemas, concerts, gyms and other public places. From September 1, similar rules were introduced for long-distance travel.
