Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about dialogue between Russia and U.S. on strategic stability

Russia and the United States are engaged in a constructive dialogue on strategic stability after the meeting of the leaders of the two states, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden – this was not the case under former US President Donald Trump, the deputy head of the Russian delegation to the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation at the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Andrey Belousov.

As the diplomat pointed out, during the Trump administration, the parties held meetings, “but there were no substantive discussions.”

“You are observing how the Russian-American dialogue on strategic stability is developing. After a long break in substantive discussions within the framework of this dialogue after the meeting of the presidents a truly substantive, constructive exchange of views began,” Belousov said.

The first meeting of the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, took place in Geneva on June 16. In a joint statement, the leaders stressed that the parties intend to launch a comprehensive bilateral dialogue on strategic stability, which will be substantive and energetic. In addition, Russia and the United States have said they intend to begin consultations on cybersecurity, prisoner swaps and arms control.

The parties have already held two rounds of talks on strategic stability. As a result of the last meeting, the parties agreed to create two working groups.
