Russia is not seen as a threat to the Baltics, but NATO is still increasing the number of troops in the region

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that Russia is not a serious threat to the Baltic States

This was reported by the publication Izvestia, citing his speech on air of Estonian television. At the same time Stoltenberg did not forget to mention Russia’s “aggressiveness”.

“Despite Russia’s significant increase in aggressiveness, there is currently no direct military threat to the Baltic states”, –  he said.

But even such statements do not prevent the Alliance from talking about its concerns over the Russian Federation. That is how it justifies its close attention to it. Apparently, the same “concern” is intended to cover up the endless NATO exercises near the borders of Russia.

For example, Stoltenberg said that the Russian presence in the region is “growing” and the strengthening of the bloc’s troops is a “response” to it. This is allegedly NATO’s way of protecting land, sea and airspace. Why this should be done when Stoltenberg himself has admitted that there is no military threat remains a question.
