Money or life: fraudsters in Odessa demanded COVID patients pay for oxygen

Scammers in Odessa have started calling coronavirus patients who have been provided with oxygen concentrators and demanded to pay for the use of the apparatus

Ekaterina Nozhevnikova, head of the public organization “Corporation of Monsters”, reported that unknown persons on behalf of the phone demanded from coronavirus patients money for the use of oxygen concentrators.

“Already three of our beneficiaries, who are on oxygen, started receiving calls from people demanding an urgent return of oxygen to the foundation. They say too long you use […] A week ago they called on my behalf to our donor and asked on my behalf 15 thousand hryvnia for an urgent collection,” – said Nozhevnikova on her page on Facebook.

As previously reported by News Front, amid another wave of pandemic coronavirus infection in Ukraine, two major producers of oxygen have stopped. Because of an acute shortage of oxygen, which is vital for severe COVID patients, doctors in Odessa had to transport patients to other facilities. Experts believe the oxygen disaster in Ukraine may be a carefully planned sabotage.
