Trials of Ukrainian vaccine against COVID-19, based on yeast, began in Poland

In the laboratory of Gdansk, tests of the Ukrainian vaccine against coronavirus infection, which are based on yeast cells, have started.

The head of the Lviv Institute of Cell Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Andriy Sibirny noted that the vaccine is based on humanized yeast.

“This is our know-how. Protein is a polymer of amino acids, and residues of various sugars can still be attached to its side groups”, the academician said on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel.

According to him, Ukrainian scientists are also developing an injection vaccine based on purified virus proteins: the drug is currently being tested in mice. Sibirny added that the main emphasis is on the vaccine in the form of a spray.

As previously reported, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), over the past week, more than 3 million people around the world have contracted coronavirus infection, over 50 thousand have died from its consequences.
