According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over the past week, more than 3 million people around the world have contracted coronavirus infection, over 50 thousand have died from its consequences, TASS reports.
“During the week of October 25-31, the number of new cases [of infection] in the world increased slightly (by 3%) compared to the previous week. In total, more than 3 million cases have been registered. The number of deaths increased over the week by 8%”, exceeding 50 thousand”, states the weekly epidemic bulletin of the WHO.
It is also noted that about 60% of new cases of COVID-19 infection are registered in Europe. The Eastern Mediterranean recorded a 12% decrease in the number of new cases, and 9% in Southeast Asia and Africa. According to the WHO, in 99.5% of cases over the past 60 days, the delta strain has been identified.
“From 25 to 31 October, 3,021,634 infected and 50,477 deaths were detected in the world,” the organization said.
As previously reported by News Front, the number of cases of coronavirus infection in the world exceeded 246 million. According to Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, vaccination with Sputnik V and booster immunization with a nasal vaccine can provide one hundred percent protection against COVID-19. He also stressed that the dose of “Sputnik V” for children will be reduced by 5-10 times.
