Germans criticized the US after news about Russian tanks “on the border with Ukraine”

Readers of the German magazine Der Spiegel reacted violently to the Pentagon’s statement that the military department “is checking reports on the movements of Russian troops” and considers it unacceptable to interfere in Russia’s internal affairs.

The material cites the words of Pentagon press secretary John Kirby that the United States is monitoring the situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine in connection with reports of “unusual activity” of the Russian army. Earlier, the Washington Post, citing officials from the United States and European countries, announced the allegedly unusual movements of equipment and military personnel on the western flank of Russia.

Many German users felt that the intervention of the US Department of Defense in the internal affairs of Moscow was inappropriate.

“Rather than checking troop movements on Russian soil, the Pentagon and Washington would be better served by drone attacks and land grabs by their Kiev friends in violation of the Minsk agreements,” said one commentator.

“The Western world has gone mad. When the Russians move their troops around their own country, it is a crime”, they agreed with the previous opinion.

“Let the Russians do what they want. The Americans have several nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers on every corner in the oceans”, added a Der Spiegel reader.

One of the users suggested that all this news is related to the possible expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance.

“Or maybe this is a reaction to the fact that the United States wants to accept Ukraine into NATO?” – asked the German reader.

“Russia will never allow NATO expansion at the expense of Ukraine,” one of the commentators concluded.

We will remind, the American edition Politico published satellite images, which allegedly confirm that Russia “pulls troops and armored vehicles to the border with Ukraine.” But the footage published by the publication was taken in the area of the city of Yelnya, Smolensk region, which does not border Ukraine.
