UK prime minister opens climate summit in Glasgow

Boris Johnson has warned of an apocalypse if action on climate change is not taken, comparing world leaders to James Bond saving the world

The twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), organised by the UK in partnership with Italy, takes place from 31 October to 12 November in Glasgow. Representatives from some 200 countries, including world leaders, experts and activists, are attending. The meeting of world leaders takes place on 1-2 November. During the summit, a number of documents are planned to be adopted on reducing greenhouse emissions, achieving carbon neutrality.

“Welcome to Glasgow, Scotland, whose most famous son in the world is a man called James Bond, who often in his films finds himself strapped into a doomsday machine, desperately trying to work out what colour wire to pull out to disconnect it, while an electronic clock counts down relentlessly to the time before the explosion that will end humanity. We, dear world leaders, are today almost in the same position as James Bond” , – Johnson said.
