U.S. naval operations in the Black and Mediterranean Seas

The United States of America, with NATO support, has launched naval operations in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

In a statement, the Navy said the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet and NATO’s Naval Strike and Support Forces, which will be stationed on the Sixth Fleet command ship Mount Whitney, are beginning operations in the Black and Mediterranean Seas.

“Mount Whitney and its headquarters will work with NATO partners and allies in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, working together to ensure security and stability in the region,” the release said.

The Sixth Fleet also reported that an Arleigh Burke-class missile destroyer USS Porter was heading for the Black Sea. Whether its sending to the region is related to the announced operation is not specified.
