From November 1, Russia stops deliveries of thermal coal to Ukraine

From November 1, 2021, Russia will stop deliveries of thermal coal to Ukraine.

Loaded Norfolk Southern coal trains sit before being unloaded at Lambert’s Point Coal Terminal in Norfolk, Virginia, U.S., on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013. In 2011, coal was used to generate 30.3 percent of the world’s primary energy, the highest level since 1969, according to the World Coal Association, an industry trade group. This was announced by the chairman of the parliamentary committee for energy and housing and communal services Andrei Gerus in his Telegram channel.

He noted that we are talking about grade A (anthracite) and T (lean) coal. Such coal was imported by DTEK (Luganskaya TPP, Krivorozhskaya TPP), Donbasenergo (Slavyanskaya TPP) and Technova (Darnitskaya TPP, Sumskaya TPP, Chernigovskaya TPP).

“According to market participants, the ban does not apply to coking coal, but only applies to coal, which is used for energy needs. Such actions of the Russian Federation are similar to their actions in the fall of 2014”, Gerus said.
