Washington was not in a position to prevent the completion of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, said Amos Hochstein, senior adviser to US President Joe Biden on global energy security
“The idea of reaching a jointa statement with Germany came from the realisation that the pipeline is complete – almost complete, the realisation that aggressive measures by the US would not change the outcome and perhaps only delay it”, – Hochstein said in a statement posted on the US State Department’s website.
The US official also added that Washington is “in touch with European countries and Ukraine regarding the search for mechanisms that would alleviate possible risks from the launch of Nord Stream 2.”
