Gender “X”: the first passport with a third gender has been issued in the US

US State Department spokesman Ned Price has announced that the country has issued the first passport marked with a third gender “X”

“The State Department has issued the first US passport marked with gender ‘X’. We look forward to offering it to anyone applying for a passport once we complete the necessary system and update the form in early 2022”, –  Price said.

The US State Department spokesperson added that the agency continues to work with other government agencies to “ensure the best possible travel experience for all passport holders, regardless of their gender identity”.

It is noted that the US government will update the current procedures and forms by 2022, after which every passport or CRBA applicant will have the option to select “male”, “female” or “X” as their gender.

“The State Department continues the process of updating its policy regarding gender markers on US passports and consular birth certificates overseas to better serve all US citizens”, –  Price stressed.
