“Ukraine is next”: Kiev assesses Moldova’s energy crisis

Ukrainian energy minister advisor Olena Zerkal has assessed the energy crisis in Moldova, saying that Ukraine could be next

“The situation there is very critical. And yesterday, the day before yesterday we had very many meetings and conversations with Moldova about how to solve this crisis. And, of course, it can only be solved together. Because Moldova is the first call. In principle, this crisis will be inherent to the whole of Europe. And, unfortunately, Ukraine is next”, –  Zerkal said.

According to Zerkal, the crisis was caused by a coincidence of many factors, but market prices are now dictated by autocratic regimes, referring primarily to Russia.

“There were natural factors in Asia, in Latin America, in the US and a shortage of liquefied natural gas. And it will grow over time, despite rising production. But demand and the fact that gas is actually a transition fuel for Asia to achieve this zero emission… Everything is shaping up so that market prices are now dictated by autocratic regimes. And Putin can’t help but take advantage of that. Because he is the clearest representative of this autocratic system”, –  the official said.
